GT Radial Wins Evo Award With the SportActive 2

The GT Radial SportActive 2 has excelled after being tested in the evo 2021 tyre performance test. The tyre, among a selection of 8 others, we measured in a range of different aspects such as wet and dry grip, resistance to aquaplaning as well as subjective feel and lap times. Within the test, the SportActive 2 came up trumps, coming first place in the curved aquaplaning test as well as coming joint first place in the straight line aquaplaning test.

After each tyre was tested in a variety of different areas, each tyre was then given an overall score and then ranked from top performer to weakest performer. Of the areas tested, wet disciplines such as wet handling and aquaplaning resistance had more of a weight on overall score because of the fact that wet conditions are a much more accurate reflection of a tyre’s true grip. Another area which was considered was the subjective experience of the driver and how they felt each tyre performed against the various different elements.

The tyres were tested in a size of 225/40/ZR18 92Y XL as this is the UK’s best selling size for ultra-high performance tyres and would best reflect the results from the test. Additionally, the test was carried out in an Audi S3 with a Haldex-style four-wheel-drive system.

Overall, the GT Radial SportActive 2 came in 6th place, ahead of established brands such as Continental and Hankook. This is a huge win for GT Radial and proves that with each new development in the range is a step in the right direction. Other tyres included within the test include those from industry giants such as Pirelli, Michelin, Bridgestone and Goodyear. The fact that the SportActive 2 beat tyres from each of these manufacturers in aquaplaning also shows an improvement in the technologies GT Radial are using to develop their tyres.

After all was said and done, evo stated that ‘The SportActive 2 excelled in the aquaplaning tests and performed well on the wet circuit too. It was less dynamic on the dry track but was liked on the road route for its decent steering connection and ride. A good tyre.’

The SportActive 2, it is revealed, improved upon wet handling and aquaplaning resistance by a margin of 10%, while it also saw an increase of 15% in wet braking. These results show an increase in performance and a strong successor to an already well-performing tyre.

In review of the evo 2021 tyre performance test, Fabio Pecci-Boriani, Senior Product Manager PCR, SUV, Light Truck for Giti Tire (Europe) stated, “The fact that our new GT Radial SportActive 2 was quoted as being ‘a good tyre’, and has beaten established premium brands in certain tests, is something that makes us all proud.”

“Evo magazine selected and purchased the best UHP products in the market and pushed them to their limits, so to be awarded first in curved aquaplaning and second in straight line aquaplaning is simply fantastic.”

“It is yet another independent test that confirms the established quality of our new GT Radial products and it motivates us even more to continue developing further our product range which will benefit from more new products and additional range extensions in 2022.”
