Bridgestone Announces E8 Commitment to Sustainability

Bridgestone has officially unveiled the global launch of their new E8 commitment. The Commitment is the culmination of Bridgestone’s corporate commitment towards the aim of helping lead the industry towards increased sustainability by 2030.

The Bridgestone E8 Commitment builds upon the company’s primary vision which is to create sustainable solutions and lead  the industry into a more efficient and environmentally-friendly direction. The E8 commitment emphasises Bridgestone’s aim to not just drive business growth, but to drive growth in a responsible manner and in the most sustainable ways available.

Moreover, Bridgestone’s E8 Commitment is also part of a larger aim as the company moves into its Bridgestone 3.0 phase, the process in which Bridgestone aims to become a leader in sustainable mobility and technologies.

The E8 Values

The E8 Commitment is composed of eight commitments – these are Energy, Ecology, Efficiency, Extension, Economy, Emotion Ease and Empowerment. These eight areas will allow Bridgestone to navigate business priorities and operations while ensuring that sustainability stays front and centre at all times.

Energy and Ecology denote Bridgestone’s clear environmental targets which are to achieve full carbon neutrality and to work exclusively with 100% sustainable materials while working in better balance with nature by the year 2050.

Next, we have Emotion and Empowerment. These two aspects both highlight an important distinction: true sustainability is as much about people as it is the planet. Emotion and Empowerment include Bridgestone’s own people first and foremost as well as their safety and wellbeing. Additionally, this also involves inclusion and diversity, human rights as well as the business’ continued commitment to a safer society and healthier conditions.

Furthermore, relating to Bridgestone’s commitment to collaboration with its partners, we have Extension, Ease and Efficiency which also relate to Bridgestone’s vision of mobility and how it will continue to evolve in the future.

Finally, there is the Economy commitment of the E8. With Economy, Bridgestone acknowledges the importance of optimising growth as well as economic value from the business.

Laurent Dartoux, President and CEO of Bridgestone EMIA, stated “We are living in unsettling and troubled times – both with the war in Ukraine and its tragic consequences for so many people, as well as the climate emergency and the impact that it is having on our planet and the lives and livelihoods of people everywhere. Now, more than ever, it is time to prioritise social value and sustainability, alongside business growth. So it is with a sense of determination and urgency to act that we have reinforced Bridgestone’s commitments to doing business sustainably.  We invite all our colleagues, partners and customers to join us in delivering on the E8 commitments – and helping shape a sustainable future for all”.

Sustainability at Bridgestone

Bridgestone’s E8 Commitment may be a newly-announced expression of Bridgestone’s sustainability mission, however the company already has quite a few achievements which have been made in this direction. One effort which has transformed Bridgestone’s ways is that 100% of electricity used within Bridgestone’s European site now come from renewable sources. Not only this, but the company has also already reduced its global emissions by 31% since the 2011 benchmark. Bridgestone is also constantly innovating and producing newer and more sustainable technologies, such as their ENLITEN technology.

Lastly, Bridgestone has been actively pushing for the electrification of mobility due to the vast improvements this has proven to make to the environment. In 2021, 50% of the top 10 global EV manufacturers chose Bridgestone tyre fitments while 50% of the top 10 most sold Vs in Europe were fitted with Bridgestone tyres.
