When should I change my tyres?

The legal limit for tyre wear in the U.K is 1.6mm.  However, after the tread depth goes below 3mm the tyre is not as efficient at stopping in a hurry and it is also not as efficient at dispersing water properly. After the tyre goes below 3mm you may also start to notice road noise much more. 

For all these reasons it is definitley worth considering changing your tyres before they reach the legal limit. Remember the tyres on your car are one of the most important purchases you can make for a vehicle as it is only your tyres that keep you gripped to the road.

It’s a little way off but it might be worth just starting to think and plan for the winter and take a look at winter tyres. Without wanting to sound a kill joy, October/November will be here before we know it and that’s generally when Winter Tyres go onto vehicles.

Winter Tyres come into their own at temperatures below 7°C). The advantages of winter tyres lies in the tread pattern and the compound of the rubber, which has a high silica content and allows them to give more grip at lower temperatures.
