I had four tyres fitted by John from etyres. I would highly recommend John for his quick, efficient and friendly service. I will use him again, especially as I can have the work done at a time and a place convenient for me.

Our service is extremely popular in the large spa town of Cheltenham on the edge of the Cotswolds. The town is synonymous with horse racing and is home to the Gold Cup, the main event of the annual Cheltenham Festival. Cheltenham has been a health and holiday spa town resort since the discovery of mineral springs there in 1716 and the waters continue to be taken recreationally at Pittville Pump Room. Cheltenham is also home to the Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ) and a host of large businesses have sites around the town, including GE-Aviation, Chelsea Building Society, Endsleigh Insurance, UCAS and Zurich Financial Services.
Last week one of our customers hit a large pothole, a common occurrence for this time of year, because snow damages tarmac and water underneath the road surface adds to the disintegration of the road surface. (You might first notice a problem if your steering wheel starts shaking at around 60 mph, indicating that it’s likely that the front wheels need balancing. If vibration is felt through the seat, then this could be an indication that the rear wheels need balancing).
When he drove through the pothole this customer heard a loud bang and felt a jolt through the steering wheel, similar to going over a speed bump too fast. He then stopped the car, got out and discovered that both tyres on one side had deflated on the driver’s side, and there was damage to both wheels. He could no longer drive the car and had to use a vehicle recovery company to get his car home.
When I went to fit the new tyres he had ordered, because of the sidewall damage which had occurred, both wheels were so damaged that it wasn’t possible to make an airtight seal between the tyre and the wheel rim. He had to get his wheels reconditioned before I could return to fit the tyres.
So – try to avoid driving over potholes if you can! And just in case, make sure that your tyres have sufficient tread left on them to withstand hard knocks such as this one. In this case, squeezing the last 1000 remaining miles out of these tyres didn’t turn out to be the cheapest option after all.
Winter tyres cope better with freezing temperatures, but why not think about removing and storing yours now spring is here? By alternating winter and summer tyres you can save whatever wear you have left on your winter ones, which cope better in freezing temperatures, until next winter comes along.
At etyres we work around your work schedule, fitting tyres at your home or place of work. Many people choose etyres because there’s nothing more convenient than booking a tyre fitting online and having an etyres fitter complete the job while you carry on working!
Pot holes cause a lot of damage to wheels; if yours are suffering because of these, and your steering wheel shakes at speed, it’s likely that your wheels could do with balancing. This service is free every time we change tyres – please contact us for details.
