Tyres Pressure Check at Tesco Milton
March 13, 2009
The etyres tyre pressure checking day at Tesco in Milton was a great success – but revealed some worrying statistics.
Nearly 300 cars were checked on Saturday (31.1.09) and 19% - that’s almost one-in-five – were driving on tyres which were either damaged or below the legal tread depth of 1.6mm.
Concern over the poor condition of the tyres was heightened because within 48 hours much of Cambridge was covered in a blanket of snow and ice, which makes driving with unfit tyres even more hazardous.
The etyres fitters also discovered that an alarming 42% of the tyres checked were revealed to be under-inflated and needed to be adjusted, while 11% had more pressure than needed.
Katherine Clarkson, etyres National Accounts executive, said: ‘The quality and cleanliness of the cars that were driven into our checking bays was high.
‘From this we deduced that our free pressure check appealed to the more careful and prudent vehicle owners. The drivers of the less well-maintained cars were either too busy or didn’t care about the condition or the safety of their tyres.’
Generous motorists also helped raise £115.08 for The Marie Curie Cancer Care Fund, by making voluntary donations in return for the tyre pressure check.
Etyres were very pleased to collaborate with such an important partner as Tesco on this tyre safety project and similar events are being organised at its branches around the country.
Etyres to the Rescue
A local 4×4 driver ran into trouble while on a game shoot near Wandlebury last week. After damaging two tyres on his Toyota Landcruiser Amazon, he soon realised that the availability of these sized tyres in Cambridge was not straightforward. Being able to get them replaced on the shoot, at a couple of hours notice, looked even more unlikely.
Fortunately the shooter had internet access on his mobile phone and he soon found etyres via a Google search.
Etyres national call centre passed his details on to out Cambridge-area fitter Ben who was able to get hold of the correct size tyres with the right speed rating and, because the order was a Fast Track job (an extra £5 per tyre), he diverted over to Wandlebury to get the tyres changed well before the shoot finished.
The shooter told Ben that the etyres price of the tyres was far less than he had previously paid at a major fast-fit. But he was even more delighted when Ben was able to repair one of the tyres instead of replacing it.
