The latest gossip from the Formula One paddock is that Lucas Di Grassi is set to replace Pedro de la Rosa as the new tyres test driver for Pirelli.
The Italian tyres manufacturer has lost two test drivers since taking over the role of sole tyres supplier to the sport from Bridgestone at the end of last season.
First they signed Nick Heidfeld, but he left to replace Pedro de la Rosa as a driver for Sauber for the final five races of the season.
In a bit of a musical chairs moment, de la Rosa then jumped into Heideld’s seat over at Pirelli and took on the role of helping the Italian team develop its new F1 tyres.
Shortly before the season got underway, the Spaniard announced he was off to take on the position of third driver for McLaren, which left Pirelli heading on a new recruitment drive – hence the speculation about di Grassi.
The 26-year-old Brazilian, a renowned test driver, had been left without a role in Formula One this year after making his Grand Prix debut with Virgin Racing in 2010.
