A third of UK vehicle owners have confessed to being “very fond” of their car, while nearly a quarter admit they even speak to it!
But while 20% give pet names and 3 per cent shower their vehicles with kisses, it’s worth remembering the greatest kindness you can show is taking care of its tyres.
Tyres are your cars only point of contact with the road and as such they are vital for its – and you and your passengers – safety.
The amusing results come from a survey of 1,271 people carried out by car-finding company Carmony.co.uk.
Many of those surveyed also admitted trying to protect their vehicles, with 21% using two spaces in a car park, and 4% covering the walls of their garage with carpet or other material to prevent scratches.
Motorists also said they kept pictures of their wheels with them – 8% on their mobile phones and 5% in their wallet or on their computer.
Paul Coleman, Carmony.co.uk marketing director, said it was not surprising that British motorists love their cars as it is often the second most expensive purchase.
“However, some behaviour such as stroking the dashboard and hugging the bonnet could be perceived as a step too far.”
Whereas, making sure its tyres are properly inflated – refer to the manufacturers handbook for accurate information – and have plenty of tread – the legal minimum limit is 1.6mm – shows you really care for your car!
