Continental Automotive Systems Begins India Operations
The German company Continental Automotive has taken strategic steps to expand its business with India and international Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) in India. Continental has opened a technical centre in Bangalore and a liaison office outside New Delhi, India, in order to diversify business opportunities within the country. The Technical centre in Bangalore and the liason office in Gurgaon, near the capital New Delhi, are to be part of developments projects “for all the business units of Continental Automotive”.
Two independent engineering facilities have been established with local partners in Bangalore as the initial phase of business expansion. Continental is set to increase the number of engineers who work in Bangalore for Continental Automotive Systems from 60 to more than 200 by 2008. The company plans to be hiring more employees for the expansion within the next few months.
The Continental Automotive Technical Centre is focused upon software development and currently has an array of projects underway, including Body & Security, Electric Drives, Powertrain & Chassis, and Telematics. The Technical Centre has targeted the production of technology such as embedded car phones, central locking systems, Bluetooth car accessories, engine management systems, window power lifters, and controllers for Hybrid Drives.
President of Continental Automotive Systems, Dr. Karl-Thomas Neumann, commented on the business expansion in India: “India means a lot to Continental. It’s a market with huge potential and growing very rapidly. We also have to support our global customer base in their growth plans for India”. Dr. Karl-Thomas Neumann is also a Member of the Executive Board of Continental AG.
