The Sumitomo BC100 is the central product in the company’s new budget tyre range. It is a summer tyre developed for compact and medium-sized passenger cars and SUVs.
When developing the BC100, the main priority for Sumitomo’s engineers was to ensure high levels of safety and performance. It is a tyre that cleverly combines innovation with affordability.
Sumitomo claims the BC100 provides stability and precision engineering, as well as a stable and smooth ride. Its durable structure also makes it a budget-friendly option as it offers good mileage and reduces expenditure on maintenance.
The BC100’s tread design is, arguably, its most important feature. Its asymmetric five-rib profile design includes extra wide circumferential grooves and carefully positioned curved central water evacuation channels. It also features a stiffened central rib.
In wet conditions, the innovative tread design consequently allows for quicker, more efficient water evacuation and improves resistance to aquaplaning. This leads to better control and safety - and therefore increased driver confidence - on wet roads.
In dry conditions, the tread pattern also allows for optimal contact with the road surface. This improves directional stability and hold, reduces braking distances and provides a good steering response.
The BC100 also importantly uses a silica-rich compound. This provides better adhesion to the road surface and consequently improves handling, directional stability and increases wet and dry grip.
Depending on tyre size, the BC100 has received an energy efficiency rating of “C” to “E” and a wet grip rating of “B” and “C” from European tyre label authorities.

The New Sumitomo Range
According to German Sales Director Jürgen Koch, the Sumitomo brand creates products for the budget segment of the tyre market. Its products are located in the price bracket below Falken, which has been somewhat "premiumised" in recent years.
The new Sumitomo tyres are all produced in the Sumitomo Rubber Industries factory in Thailand.
Sumitomo has already experienced success in some of the most demanding export markets around the world, including the highly competitive North American market. This is hardly surprising, considering the company's reputation for innovative design, precision engineering and superior quality. A reputation that stems from over a century's worth of knowledge, technical expertise and manufacturing experience in the tyre industry.
Popular mid-range Japanese brand Falken - owned by Sumitomo Rubber Industries - presented the new Sumitomo tyre portfolio at The Tyre Cologne in June 2018.
Sumitomo BC100 Sizes
The Sumitomo BC100 is for compact and medium-sized passenger cars, as well as SUVs. It is available in an impressive 86 sizes, for rim diameters ranging from 13 to 19 inches and speed indexes T, H, V and W.
