Goodyear UltraGrip Performance
The Goodyear UltraGrip Performance is a winter tyre for cars and SUVs. Launched in 2015, it is a great choice for larger high performance vehicles and can handle a wide range of winter conditions.
It demonstrates confident handling on ice and in tough snowy conditions. Also, it provides a reliable and assured performance on dry roads in freezing temperatures.
The UltraGrip Performance's compound and construction is highly innovative.
First of all, it provides good wear life; meaning both good mileage and tread that wears evenly throughout the tyre's lifespan.
Moreover, Goodyear's Tread Optimal Performance (TOP) indicator technology makes it easier for drivers to maintain their tyres and monitor tread depth. As the tyre wears down, the snow flake symbol on the centre of the tread wears out and disappears to warn drivers it is time to replace the tyre.
The UltraGrip Performance's tread pattern also vastly improves its capabilities and the levels of safety if offers.
The inclusion of hydrodynamic grooves allows water to channel effectively away from between the tyre and road surface. This improves traction in wet conditions, including slush and melting snow, and reduces the risk of aquaplaning.
Furthermore, a new sipe arrangement increases sipe density and consequently the volume of water the sipes can evacuate from the contact patch. This improves overall grip and performance in wet and snowy conditions.
What's more, these features also mean the UltraGrip Performance works consistently well in varying depths of surface water, a feat not all of its rivals have managed to achieve yet.
The UltraGrip Performance has inbuilt rim protectors, which offer increased protection against kerb damage to wheels.
What's more, it utilises Goodyear's SoundComfort Technology. This reduces the interior noise level inside the vehicle by up to 50%, which makes for a much quieter and more comfortable ride.
In addition to this, Goodyear's SnowProtect Technology ensures superior winter performance. It makes the tyre feel progressive and easy to control, and reduces braking distances, on snow. This technology is also combined with interlocking sipes to further improve general hard and sudden braking performance.
Research & Development
The UltraGrip Performance has been developed from the existing tyres in Goodyear's UltraGrip series. Considerable research and development has gone into this tyre range since its launch.
Its highly intelligent tread pattern has evolved as a result of Goodyear's commitment and dedication to continually improving.
Research has also led to a reduction in the tyre's weight, which increases both its responsiveness and fuel efficiency.
Goodyear UltraGrip Performance Features
- Exceptional snow braking capabilities
- Optimised, even tread wear
- Excellent resistance to aquaplaning
Goodyear UltraGrip Performance Tests & Reviews
According to many independent tyre tests and customer reviews, the UltraGrip Performance is a tyre that consistently delivers, regardless of size. It provides an impressive level of performance, and offers a quiet, comfortable ride and impressive fuel economy as a bonus.
The UltraGrip Performance had a good year in 2018, performing well in both Auto Express' Winter Tyre Test and Auto Bild's UHP Winter Tyre Test. In the former, it ranked fourth out of ten tyres, after being described as well-balanced with excellent aquaplaning resistance. In the latter, it came fifth out of eleven tyres for its exceptional performance in snowy and wet conditions.
The year before, in Sport Auto's Winter Tyre Test, the UltraGrip Performance came joint first out of nine tyres. Testers described it as gripping and handling well on wet surfaces and offering a balanced performance on dry roads as well. As a result of this - and its reliable behaviour in snow - it received the label "Highly Recommended."
