With much of the UK waking up under a blanket of snow, it seems appropriate that the Telegraph’s motoring agony aunt, Honest John, has been asked about the ‘grippiest’ tyres on the market.
Here’s what he has to say: ‘Based on my experience, I would say that Yokohama tyres are the grippiest. For relatively low profile, quiet, fuel-efficient, long-life: Michelin Pilot Primacy HP. Higher profile, fuel-efficient, long-life: Michelin Energy or Vivacy. Reasonably quiet rain tyres: Goodyear Hydrajet or Optigrip. Road tyres for SUVs: Pirelli P Zero Rosso or Continental Cross Contact. Fairly quiet, on/off-road tyres for SUVs: Pirelli Scorpion.
Honest John is a bit of a legend in the motoring world. He started work in the motor trade in 1959 and bought his first car in 1964. His award-winning agony column first appeared in the Daily Telegaph’s Saturday Motoring section in January 1995 and he has since helped many tens of thousands of people with their motoring problems. He can tell you everything you need to know when buying a new or used car.
