The British tyres safety organisation TyreSafe has been given a massive boost with the news that Volkwagen Group UK has joined its ranks.
The five brands which make up the Group – Audi, SEAT, Skoda, Volkswagen and Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles – have become full members of the tyres organisation and will take part in national campaigns highlighting the importance of tyres in road safety.
Rob Beddis, chairman of TyreSafe, said: ‘The addition of a vehicle manufacturer to our organisation is an important step forward for TyreSafe.
‘As we continually expand and engage with the wider automotive industry, the Volkswagen Group’s extensive experience of dealing with motorists and fleets will be invaluable to future TyreSafe campaigns.
‘We look forward to receiving a fresh perspective and input, helping to reduce the number of accidents caused by defective tyres.’
TyreSafe is a not for profit non commercial organisation set up 16 years ago with the responsibility of raising the awareness of the importance of the dangers of defective and worn tyres.
The organisation already has the support of all the major tyre companies and leading tyre retailing groups across the UK, together with other road safety organisations such as the RAC Foundation, RoadSafe and BRAKE.
The organisation and its activities has been credited with reducing the number of defective tyres in the UK over the past 16 years from 20% to 12% today.
TyreSafe will continue to campaign to underline the dangers of driving with defective or badly worn tyres and will provide information to government about these dangers to help influence any change in the tyre law.
