An entire village is in shock after mindless thugs went on a car vandalism spree causing thousands of pounds of damage to around 50 vehicles and tyres.
The residents of the normally quiet village of Bere Alston, near Yelverton, West Devon, woke up on Saturday morning to find their car tyres had been slashed and paintwork had been scratched.
“Everyone is in shock,” said Amanda Lockhart, whose husband Steve’s car was one of those damaged.
“Villagers were just walking around looking at what had happened. It is horrendous.”
The couple’s Jaguar X-K8, which was parked opposite their home, was among the cars targeted in the attack, with two tyres slashed and scratches to the driver’s side door and wing.
At an impromptu village meeting near to a number of vandalised cars, Sergeant Lee Nattrass said: “The community has come together to ask for our assistance.
“This is an isolated incident in an area of low crime and we are working to find out who is responsible.”
House-to-house inquiries were carried out in the village throughout the weekend.
Anyone with information is asked to call police on 08452 777444 quoting log 253 311009.
