National Road Safety Week is underway and Herts Police have put out a video clip to remind motorists how to check their tyres.
The short film takes motorists through three quick and easy steps to check over their vehicle’s tyres, with the help of Road Policing Officer PC Bruce Lister.
Chief Inspector Donna Pierce from the Road Policing Strategic Unit, said: “Tyres can be an often neglected part of our vehicles, but in reality they are incredibly important – they are what connects us with the road and can play a critical difference between staying safe on the roads and not.
“As the weather conditions worsen, it becomes even more important to ensure your vehicle is road-worthy and ready for the different driving conditions. Try to make it a regular part of your vehicle maintenance – check your tyre tread, make sure they are correctly inflated and are in good condition, and ensure you have plenty of windscreen washer fluid.”
Stuart Pile, Hertfordshire County Council’s Executive Member for Highways and Transport, said: “With more reliable vehicles and longer stretches between services, we often forget to carry out critical checks on things like tyres and lights.
“Road Safety Week is a good time for drivers and riders to focus on making sure their vehicles are in tip top condition. Why not make an early New Year’s resolution to check your tyres regularly, at least every couple of weeks and more often if you do a high mileage.”
