Police are hunting a gang who stole tyres worth £40,000 from the back of a lorry while the driver was sleeping.
The gang of around 10 men carried out the bold tyres raid while the lorry was parked up in a layby on the A1 near Stretton.
At about 4.30am the driver was awoken by the noise and found a gang stealing from his vehicle.
The gang loaded 700 Michelin tyres worth £40,000 before taking off after they were disturbed by the driver.
The thieves made their escape in a white Scania rigid truck, which sped off south along the A1.
Laybys along the A1, in particular by the Woolfox Depot near Stretton, have been a hotspot for thieves during the past year, with a number of thefts reported to the police.
Drivers have been warned they should keep their vehicles securely locked and keep an eye out for any suspicious activity.
