The date has been announced for the ninth annual National Tyre Safety Week in the US, by the Rubber Manufacturers Association (RMA).
It follows on from the success of the UKs Tyres Safety Month, which raised awareness about the importance of making sure tyres have the right amount of tread depth.
Motoring journalist and TV presenter Quentin Willson backed the TyreSafe campaign last month and fronted a new online video demonstrating the ‘llifesaver in your pocket’ initiative which encourages drivers to check their tyre tread depth to see if they are safe and legal with the use of a 20p coin.
In the US, the annual week-long event is an initiative of the RMA’s “Be Tyre Smart – Play Your PART” program, a year-round effort designed to help drivers learn the simple steps they can take to ensure that their tyres are in good working condition.
More than 21,000 tyre dealers, auto dealers and automotive repair shops participated during the 2009 National Tyre Safety Week, the RMA reports.
Partners in the Be Tire Smart program include tyre retailers, car dealers, safety advocates and state government agencies.
