An angry farmer is appealing for witnesses to come forward after an outbreak of illegal tyres-dumping in soft fruit fields.
Around 100 old car and van tyres were scattered in two fields in Abroath within the space of a few days.
Farm manager Gary Bruce said: “It’s amazing what people will do these days.”
He added: “I’m just really up in arms about the dumping because now I’m left with the responsibility of dealing with it.”
Police suspect the tyres were brought to the fields by van or truck at night, as there are often workers in the fields during daylight.
The method and the timing suggests this is the work of one group, but Mr Bruce was at a loss as to who would do such a thing, and lamented that it would be difficult to prove anyway.
Both sites are clearly exposed to the road, and Mr Bruce hopes the same reason that perhaps caused them to pick the field could be their undoing.
He said: “You never know, if people see it in the paper they might think ‘I saw a van in here that night’ and report it.”
Police are currently investigating both incidents.
