If you are thinking about fitting some secondhand cheap car tyres to your vehicle you should read this blog before you make up your mind.
Our etyres Cardiff branch was recently called out to a same-day flat tyre job where they met a lady who had bought two part worn cheap car tyres the day before.
She had literally only travelled 10 miles to her caravan and yet she had suffered a flat tyre in that short space of time.
When Gareth replaced the tyre he discovered it was badly damaged and cracking on the inside. He immediately looked for the DOT code to see how old the tyre was and discovered it was manufactured in the 45th week of 2001 – which made the tyre 12 years old!
Considering motoring and safety organisations advise motorists to replace their car tyres after five years on safety grounds, this tyre is positively ancient and should have been retired from the roads seven years ago.
Gareth decided to check the second part worn cheap tyre his customer had been sold and discovered that this one only had 2mm of tread – the legal minimum limit is 1.6mm, so again this was not a cheap tyre, but a total rip off.
The customer was naturally very upset, she thought she was saving money by buying secondhand cheap car tyres, but soon realised it was a false economy.
New tyres do not have to cost the earth, etyres supply and fit a wide range of cheap car tyres from our popular economy range and you can have them fitted at your home or work, so you don’t have to waste your time going to a tyre depot.
