No – this headline is not a joke. A US inventor has come up with a Reusable Cat Litter System made from recycled tyres.
And EnviroKats is apparently causing quite a stir around the world – with production almost online in Canada, inventor John King is optimistic about launching a manufacturing facility in England to serve the European cat-loving community.
“The interest from Canada and Europe has been incredible,” according to King. “We’ve received numerous requests for product from Australia as well.”
To be honest we don’t want to go into too much detail about how EnviroKat – a litter tray filled with black nuggets of shredded rubber – works, but let’s just say it tackles a couple of environmental issues at once by recycling old tyres into more eco-friendly cat litter.
And if you follow the cleaning instructions you will never have to replace the litter, all you have to do is scoop out the – ahem – waste, periodically rinse the litter off with water and let it trickle out through the drain hole at the bottom.
Alternatively, you can stick with lugging a 10 litre bag of kitty litter home from the supermarket each week and screwing your nose up as you clean out the tray….
