The dangers of driving on bald tyres were highlighted following a serious incident on the M5 recently, prompting police to issue a warning to motorists.
Two tyres on a vehicle that overturned on the motorway were below the legal limit, according to Avon and Somerset Police, which has advised drivers to remember to check their tyres.
Incredibly, no one was injured, however two lanes of the M5 were closed after the vehicle overturned and landed on the outside lane of the motorway.
A police spokesperson said: “Two of the tyres on the vehicle that overturned on the M5 this morning were below the legal limit – three points and a fine for the person responsible.”
The police also issued this warning to other motorists: “Please remember to check your tyres – bald tyres increase the risk of aquaplaning. Important to remember given the wet weather this week.”
