We like to keep you updated on new and creative uses for old tyres and we’ve just spotted a fantastic example on our own Head Office doorstep in Cambridge!
A firm of leading city architects have built the most striking, curved wall out of old tyres and topped it off with a hedge of rich greenery to help it blend into the surroundings.
It was designed by the award-winning architect firm R H Partnership to act as an earth bank retaining structure at the beautiful and renowned Botanic Garden in Cambridge.
The amazing wall is a perfect example of how inspired minds recycle anything into something practical and even beautiful.
But anyone who saw last weeks episode of the Channel 4 property programme Grand Designs won’t need much convincing after they saw a couple build a eco-friendly family home out of old tyres packed with earth. Dubbed ‘earthships’ these inspired homes first appeared in Mexico 30 years ago and are starting to spring up around the world.
