The British Formula 3 season will get underway this Easter with a new car tyres supplier and title sponsor.
The country’s premier single-seater racing championship will be known as the Cooper Tyres British F3 International Series.
Cooper tyres takes over the role from Avon and hopes its new supply deal will boost its European profile.
Formula 3 has long been regarded as one of the world’s most successful championships for Formula 1 drivers.
Racing aces including driver-of-the moment Jenson Button and world champion Lewis Hamilton came up through its ranks. While Mika Hanninen and the late Ayrton Senna also took part in the series on their way to the top of the sport.
To let the drivers skill come to the fore, all the cars feature similar technical specifications, with Formula 3 engines producing similar power, around 210 bhp. Using one tyre supplier prevents any single team gaining an advantage when it comes to grip.
Now, after 27 years of racing exclusively on Avon Tyres, this year’s supply will switch to Cooper Tyre – a brand that has a well established reputation in US motorsport.
