When our fitter turned up on a Huntingdon job this morning he encountered an increasingly common situation. The customer had been told by his local garage that his tyres had only just scraped through the MOT and needed renewing, so he went away to shop around for the best price (smart move).
After finding we were offering the best deal, he placed his order and waited for our fitter to arrive. When the fitter got there he discovered the worst tyres still had 5mm of tread and months more life left in them! So, we gave our customer a full refund. We ‘lost’ the sale, but we won a customer for life.
etyres advises all vehicle owners who are unsure about a garage’s recommendation that they need a new tyres or especially in cases where they are told them need a complete new set, to seek a second opinion, even if it’s from a family member or friend.
The minimum legal tread depth is 1.6mm.
