A community leader is warning motorists to be on their guard after she fell victim to a tyres scam and had her handbag stolen.
Rosemary Palmer was sitting in her car outside a bank when a young man tapped on her window and pointed to one of her tyres.
The chairman of the Ealing Dyslexia Association got out to investigate and by the time she got back into the car her bag had been stolen from the passenger seat.
Ms Palmner said: “He was very polite and smartly dressed and pointed to some drawing pins in the road, which wouldn’t have damaged the tyres. You don’t think if someone taps on the window, you just react. He didn’t scare me. He was very clever and subtle.
“It did leave me upset and shocked but the bank was fantastic and called the police for me, offered to look at their CCTV and gave me a glass of water. You get over these things when people like the bank are so nice. I’m sure I’m not the only one so wanted to warn people.”
