The all-new Porsche Panamera will be equipped with specially designed summer and winter tyres aimed at boosting its fuel efficiency.
It is a massive coup for Michelin to be supplying the tyres for the new Porsche, which promises to be one of the most exciting additions to the green car world as a high performance car that can achieve remarkable fuel consumption figures predicted to be in the region of 31mpg.
And the four-door GT’s efficiency will be boosted even further when it is equipped with the Michelin Pilot Sport and Pilot Alpin tyres which will provide optimum grip on wet or dry roads, in hot or cold weather.
The summer and winter tyres respond to Porsche’s requirements in terms of handling and comfort, while helping to reduce fuel consumption and emissions.
Michelin claims this success is based on its ability to improve different areas of tyre performance.
It states that the high technologies along with know-how and understanding of materials help to meet the challenge of reducing the vehicles environmental impact, while still delivering superior handling and safety performance.
The three-year project that led to the two tyres’ certification reflects Michelin’s ability to meet Porsche’s very high expectations.
The Pilot Sport was subject to 90-minute tests at speeds of more than 300 km/h, with a 20-minute burst at 350 km/h.
Michelin’s dedicated high-performance tyre technical teams produced more than 2,000 prototypes of the summer tyre and 1,000 for the winter tyre.
Testing was conducted at different locations around the world notably at temperatures as low as -25°C to test winter tyre rubber compounds.
