Got a spare £100,000 to splash – the Mercedes sports car that landed Lewis Hamilton in trouble with the Aussie police for his smoking-tyres stunt is up for auction.
The Formula One ace was caught performing illegal road stunts before the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne last month and his Mercedes AMG C63 was impounded in a blaze of publicity.
Officers saw his burning tyres and arrested him for improper use of a motor vehicle under so-called anti-hoon laws – smoking tyre stunts are known in Australia as “hooning” and it was made illegal in a bid to to clamp down on anti-social driving.
Red-faced Hamilton immediately apologised for his behaviour, saying it was “over-exuberant and silly”.
Now a Mercedes-Benz dealership in Melbourne is auctioning the car, along with the police report and a signed photo of Hamilton.
Bids for the car have so far reached £97,000…
