Less than 5% of UK motorists are planning on using winter tyre, despite weather forecasters already predicting another season of chaos on the roads, according to research by Manheim Auctions.
Apparently, of 3,000 respondents a staggering 95.5% said they had no plans to fit winter tyres, with 41% citing the cost of buying and fitting them as the reason they have been deterred.
A further 28% of people believe the weather wouldn’t get bad enough to justify the expense, while 16% said they didn’t really know what a winter tyre is.
However, shopping online can often reveal the best deals and service. our etyres customers find that we are up to 40% cheaper than the leading high street tyre chains, because we operate a mobile fitting service, which means we don’t have to inflate our prices to cover our overheads.
Going back to the Manhein Auctions survey, it also revealed that 92% of respondents do drive differently in the snow. Of those that didn’t, worryingly 63% claimed they didn’t need to as the snow didn’t cause them any problems when driving and they were skilful enough to handle all weather conditions.
Craig Mailey, Marketing Director of Manheim Auctions, said: “Winter tyres are an investment in safety. They will help to keep you on the move and on the road, reduce the risk of accidents and can be used over several winters.
“The fact that 16% don’t really know what winter tyres are suggests that calling them cold weather tyres would be more helpful.”
