Coming to a cinema near you (maybe) – Rubber, a movie about a killer tyre.
No, it’s not a joke. There is actually a movie out about a serial killer tyre called Rubber and even more surprising, it was a hit at the famous Cannes Film Festival.
Highly respected film critics have even been lavishing it with praise. Allan Hunter of Screen magazine said: “Rubber’s originality and winning humor combine to make it one of the guilty pleasures of Cannes 2010.”
While New York’s Logan Hill added: “the film is beautifully shot and formally composed.”
Magnet Releasing, the genre arm of Magnolia Pictures, has acquired US rights to “Rubber”, which is currently screening as part of Cannes Critic’s Week.
Directed by Quentin Dupieux (“Steak,” “Nonfilm”), the film tells the story of Robert, an inanimate tyre that has been abandoned in the desert, and suddenly and inexplicably comes to life.
As Robert roams the landscape, he discovers that he possesses “telepathic powers that give him the ability to destroy anything he wishes without having to move.”
Sounds like one not to be missed!
