Apparently, the average two car family could be spending an extra £20 a month on fuel due to the costs of duty, VAT and oil all rising together.
But by following a few simple steps, like making sure your tyres are properly inflated, you can ease the strain on your wallet and make your fuel go further.

The more stuff that is in your car, the more fuel you will use to move it. Have a clear out and decide whether you need the roof rack screwed on all the time.
2. Don’t be conned by air con
Turning on the air con will use more fuel, so keep it off unless it’s really hot. That said, when it comes to saving money, it makes more sense to use air con than to open a window – because that increases the drag on your car.
3. Keep your tyres pumped up
If your tyres are not inflated properly it will use more fuel to get you moving.
4. Don’t cram fuel in
The more fuel you pump in, the heavier the car and the more you’ll use. So try to only half fill your tank… unless you’re trying to beat a price rise at the pumps.
