Michelin are delighted to have landed the contract to supply the original equipment tyres for the hot new Megane Renaultsport 250 Cup, due to hit our roads in January 2010.
The 235/40 ZR 18 Pilot Sport 2 high-performance tyres will be fitted as standard to make the most of the car’s motorsport-derived chassis.
The new car will be available with the standard Sport chassis for everyday driving thrills and the Cup chassis for even more track-focussed performance.
The Michelin Pilot Sport 2 is the French tyres manufacturers high-performance road tyre and is inspired by the company’s past experience in Formula One, which culminated in a world championship victory in partnership with Renault.
And according to Michelin: “If any further proof of the tyre’s performance credentials were needed, the tyre is also fitted as standard to the Bugatti Veyron.
“The tyre features a Variable Contact Patch that increases the area of tread in contact with the road as cornering force increases and an asymmetric tread pattern which has a rubber-to-groove ratio close to that of an F1 tyre.
“The asymmetric pattern means that the tyre is able to offer high levels of dry grip due to larger tread blocks and fewer grooves on the outer shoulders, and excellent wet grip due to more grooves and sipes on the inner shoulder.”
The Michelin Pilot Sport 2 is available in various sizes to suit most high-performance cars and the Megane Renaultsport 250 will be available to order from November, with customer deliveries starting in January 2010.
