Bridgestone is trumpeting how its van tyres can help drivers ride out the economic downturn with its seemingly indestructible tyres.
The tyres manufacturer cites the example of self-employed Newport courier Jeff Weaver and his Peugeot Boxer, which he bought to start up the business in 2007 – complete with Bridgestone Duravis tyres on the rear wheels and budget models on the front.
According to Bridgestone: “To date Mr Weaver has had to replace his front tyres several times but remarkably the original set of rears are still going strong. Three and a half years and 129,000 business miles later they comfortably pass the twenty pence piece tread test and provide Mr Weaver with a little ray of sunshine to start each working day.”
Mr Weaver himself said: “It’s amazing that these rear tyres have lasted this long and they still show no sign of needing to be changed yet, even though they’ve gone round the world almost five times!
“As I’ve not yet made my millions from the courier business yet my replacement front tyres have had to be purchased on a budget but when the rears finally wear out I shall definitely be buying more Bridgestones to replace them.”
However, Bridgestone has gone the extra mile to express their thanks to Mr Weaver for using him as a good example that it will supply him with a brand new set of tyres for his Boxer van – when he needs them.
Andy Dingley, communications manager at Bridgestone UK , said: “This is a fantastic small business story and shows just how far your business capital can stretch if you invest it in the right things. We are absolutely delighted to present Mr Weaver with a new set of tyres and I sincerely hope they provide him with the same sort of service as his existing rear tyres.”
