British engineering company Ricardo PLC has selected Goodyear as the exclusive supplier of fuel-efficient military tyres for the U.S. Army Fuel Efficient Ground Vehicle Demonstrator (FED) program.
Goodyear was chosen from among a group of several other military tyres makers to develop a new class of tyres that will improve fuel efficiency without a significant impact on durability and tread life.
The US manufacturer said it will develop tyres incorporating its Fuel Max Technology, developed for commercial truck tyres.
Launched in 2008 by the US Army’s Tank Automotive Research, Development and Engineering Centre (TARDEC), the FED programme was established to enhance military vehicle technology, reduce fuel consumption on the battlefield and reduce US dependence on oil.
Goodyear has been selected as the exclusive developer of fuel-efficient military tyres for the Fuel Efficient Ground Vehicle Demonstrator program, under a contract awarded to Ricardo, Inc, the US subsidiary of Ricardo PLC.
