The FIA Formula Two Championship is making a comeback after 25 years – and it’s sporting Avon tyres.
Billed as a new European racing series designed to offer ‘affordable’ high calibre racing for aspiring young drivers, Avon tyres have been unveiled as the official tyres supplier.
And in a nutshell – it’s great news for budding Lewis Hamiltons!
The major new fixture in the motorsport calendar will feature 24 identical cars designed by the Williams F1 team and has been created as the ultimate feeder category for Formula One.
Sixteen races will take place at eight circuits across Europe, from Valencia in Spain – which kicks off the championship on 31 May – to Brands Hatch in the UK.
Julian Baldwin, managing director of Cooper Tyre Europe, said: ‘Avon has a history of supplying tyres to F1 feeder championships and we’re proud to continue that tradition.
All F2 cars – the Williams JPH1 which was unveiled at Brands Hatch last week – will be manufactured to identical specification and run entirely by Motorsport Vision (MSV) to ensure driver talent shines through.
