Firefighters were tacking a huge blaze at a tyres yard in Manchester today.
Roads were closed surrounding the tyres recycling centre and motorists were urged to avoid Levenshulme as the emergency services tackled the inferno at the site on Sandfold Lane.
The fire service said that hundreds of tyres were on fire at the yard sending clouds of thick black smoke billowing across the skyline.
The alarm was raised early this morning and the police and firefighters arrived on the scene just after 6am.
Up to 40 firefighters were tackling the blaze, pouring water onto the fire with the help of aerial extension ladders.
There were no reports of anyone being hurt or trapped, however, police closed a series of roads around the site and advised motorists to avoid the area.
Sandfold Lane and Mount Road were closed between the junctions with Matthews Lane and Longford Road to allow firefighters quick access to the site.
