A major campaign aimed at saving drivers money on fuel and reducing greenhouse emissions, is driving forward in the US.
Making sure tyres are properly inflated and de-cluttering the boot are just two of the tips offered by the Alliance to Save Energy as part of its Drive $marter Challenge.
Keeping your tyres properly inflated is simple and improves fuel mileage by around 3%, while an extra 100 pounds in the boot cuts a typical vehicle‘s fuel economy by up to 2%.
Now the campaign is getting extra support from the Rubber Manufacturers Association whose Be Tyre Smart – Play Your Part tyre care education programme also seeks to educate consumers to take simple steps that can save money, protect the environment and promote safety.
Charles A Cannon, president and CEO of the RMA, said: “We share a common goal in seeking to educate motorists that proper maintenance can have significant personal and national benefits.”
RMA’s eighth annual National Tyre Safety Week on June 7-13 will involve more than 20,000 tyre and auto service outlets that will offer Be Tyre Smart information to consumers.
The initiative provides an opportunity to promote both environmental and safety benefits of tire care.
