With the first layers of snow still blighting the UK, motorists are being warned to brace themselves, their cars and especially their tyres, for what could be our worst pothole season ever.
After weeks of sub-zero temperatures the potholes and cracks are already emerging and with motorists facing potential bills for damaged tyres, wheels and suspensions, it’s enough to send a shiver down their spines.
Last year the ultimate cost of pothole related damage to vehicles was estimated to be be around £320million.
And this year, with cash-strapped councils cutting back on non-essentials like road repairs, the road ahead could be even bumpier.
According to a survey by Warranty Direct nine out of ten drivers claim councils are doing too little to keep up with repairs.
Spokesman Duncan McClure Fisher said: “Last year’s damage could pale into insignificance.
“The roads are going to deteriorate incredibly quickly over the coming months. Given the severity and earlier-than-normal arrival of wintry conditions, everything is pointing towards a miserable period for motorists.”
If you have damaged your tyre by driving over a pothole it is worth remembering that often a puncture can be repaired, which means you don’t have to fork out to buy a replacement.
etyres fitters are qualified to carry out puncture repairs and they come to a location of your choice, which means you don’t have to risk causing more damage to the tyre by driving to a garage if you spot a potential problem.
