Bridgestone tyres is offering inventors who have created a vehicle from junk parts or a three-wheeler that runs on something like bananas or manure the chance to showcase their designs at the annual Eco Rally.
The rally is a convoy of the world’s best low and zero emission vehicles from cars and motorbikes to vans, trucks and taxis, which runs from Broad Street in Oxford to The Mall in London.
The event features the latest eco-friendly vehicles from the likes of Lotus, Nissan, Volvo and Aston Martin made in hi-tech manufacturing facilities.
But Bridgestone wants to open the show up to showcase green machines have been produced in the UK ’s biggest engineering hub – sheds and garages.
The tyres manufacturer is appealing to anyone who has created a three wheel vehicle that runs on something unusual like bananas, milk or manure or you have created a car made from old junk that does a fantastic mpg, to submit their invention and the best designs will be put on display at the UK ’s largest sustainable transport exhibition at The Mall in London on Sunday 31st July.
Andy Dingley, from Bridgestone, said: “As part of this year’s Eco-Rally we asked school children across the UK to submit their design for green cars of the future and now we want to take that appeal one step further and see what the innovators out there are coming up with.
“Sustainable transport is a fascinating design area with unique problems and we want to see how the amateur designers out there are tackling and overcoming the issues.”
He added: “There are many obstacles to the advancement of eco-friendly transport and the solutions to these issues come from all sources whether it be a large manufacturer or someone working out of their garage.
“The chance to see these independent developments as well as those from the motor industry is an exciting one for those of us who are passionate about seeing zero emission transport becoming the future. The ingenuity and resourcefulness of the amateur designer never fails to amaze.”
