Your car battery is the source of power for the ignition system and the starter to crank the engine – without it you’re going nowhere!
If it dies on you it’s worth remembering that etyres provides the same convenient mobile fitting service for batteries as it does for tyres, and we will come to you to a location of your choice – at home or work – to fit a replacement.
But with a bit of care and maintenance you can help to keep your battery in tip-top condition during the cold winter months.
So follow these simple steps to battery care:
Here are our tips:
Check connections and terminals for signs of corrosion. If they are encrusted with muck, use a wire brush dipped in baking soda and water to clean them to ensure that deposits do not block the flow of electrical current.
Inspect cable ends to verify their tightness. A loose battery connection can prevent your car from starting. If you can move the battery cable ends that are attached to the battery terminals at all, they are too loose.
Check the fluid level – unless your battery is the sealed tyre which will mean you’re going to need to assess the fluid level. Check to make sure the water level in the battery hasn’t dropped. Just flip open the plastic cover and check to see that the water inside reaches the plastic filler necks and add distilled water if necessary.
Check the battery tray to make sure the battery is securely fastened into it. A loose battery that is allowed to shift can be damaged and cause damage to underhood components.
