The appalling state of many potholed roads in the UK is already causing a rise in insurance claims as vehicles suffer damaged tyres, wheels and suspension.
The bad weather is taking its tolls on the country’s roads, according to Potholes.co.uk.
Duncan McClure Fisher of Warranty Direct, which set up the website, said: “We’re hearing the same stories again and again – people are hitting craters caused by icy conditions and already poor road quality, and they are having to pay out for new wheels and tyres.”
Water which has frozen in cracks in the road has caused surfaces to be torn apart, Potholes.co.uk explained, and in many cases this process is occurring on a daily basis.
In recent weeks, the website warned that drivers may find their cars are damaged without realising it, as they have travelled over water-filled potholes.
Potholes.co.uk gives motorists the contact details they need to report a pothole in their area, plus advice on how to make a claim if their car has been damaged.
It also offers vehicle owners the chance to share their experiences by allowing them to post details and pictures of potholes in their area and warning other motorists about the hazards on local roads.
