Background Information on Mini
Originally produced by the British Motor Corporation and its successors from 1959 to 2000, Mini is now owned by the BMW Group that has produced a redesign of the traditional Mini since April 2001.Many of the range feature runflat tyres as standard, a technology which Mini appeared to be moving away from, until the release of the Countryman sporting runflats once again.
Runflats enable you to drive safely up to 150 miles at 50mph following a puncture, a Mini runflat tyre is marked with a RSC logo on the sidewall. It is recommended that run flat tyres are always replaced with a similar product, as run flats have much stiffer sidewalls than those in traditional tyres and this is taken into account by vehicle manufacturers when they design their suspension and steering systems.
You are advised to consult the vehicle manufacturer if you are considering using non run flat tyres. etyres supplies a range of replacement run flat tyres to meet the needs of all BMW cars.
Mini has worked with tyre manufacturers to develop its own Mini-specific version of the most popular tyres. etyres supply and fit these manufacturer approved tyres, which feature a star on the sidewall. These tyres have been designed and fine tuned to work at their optimum when fitted to a Mini car.
Changing Mini Cooper Tyres
Changing Mini Cooper Car Tyresshould require 3 primary choices:- The overall quality of the tyre (durability, wear, ratings, cost) desired for the Mini Cooper
- The speed rating that the Mini Cooper Tyres should have depending upon the driver's average and occasional "fastest-driven" speed
- Deciding if local and/or regional weather patterns merit keeping two sets of tyres for dry vs. wet road conditions

Further, if an owner wishes to put tyres on different sized wheels for the Mini Cooper, a careful decision about what size tyres will be valid for that Mini Cooper is required. If, for example, a larger wheel size is desired, then the profile (height) and/or the width must be reduced to avoid damaging the drive train. A 195/65/15 tyre for that Mini Cooper, for instance, on a 17" rim, could legitimately become a 165/65 (narrower) or a 195/55 (shorter) but could not stay a 195/65 as before. A handy calculator for changing tyre sizes can be found here.
All tyres for any Mini Cooper vehicle should be fitted using the proper torque, according to the manufacturer's specifications. Torque is the amount of pressure used to tighten the wheel nuts. For tyres that are fitted to the following Mini Cooper models, the torque settings are listed. Also, the recommended air pressure to put into tyres for Mini Cooper models is listed. Further, the alternate tyre size for Mini Cooper models.
