handling characteristics comparable with the best dry
performers. Continental’s ContiSportContact 2 took
second place earning compliments for its “very good”
performance in the wet. Yokohama’s Advan Neova AD07 took
third place and was praised for its grip: “If you're
looking to cut the quickest lap times while using a
street tyre, this is the one to have,” the magazine
reported.
According to Car & Driver staff: “Testing tyres is a
difficult job (and probably the reason we haven’t
conducted such a test since 1989). But tyres are a most
critical part of your car, your only connection to the
road.” Both wet and dry performance tests were
conducted, with the magazine editors joined by racing
instructors.
When the tyre smoke cleared, the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3
held a commanding overall top score, achieving 1050.4
points out of a possible 1100 points in categories such
as dry performance, wet performance, price and tread
wear.
Michelin’s Pilot Sport PS2 took fourth place, with
Hankook’s Ventus R-S2 Z212 in fifth. The Dunlop SP Sport
Maxx and Pirelli P Zero Rosso Asimmetrico were virtually
tied for sixth and seventh place respectively, while the
Toyo Proxes T1R held took eight place. The Bridgestone
Potenza RE050A, BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KD and Kumho
Ecsta MX brought up the rear.
“As an all-around high-performance tyre, you can’t beat
this Goodyear. It was the best performer in all three
wet-track tests and was very competent in the dry. The
Goodyear gripped so well that you might not have been
certain the road was wet,” the magazine commented.
Goodyear UK’s James Bailey added: “We are delighted that
the Eagle F1 was rated number one in this test, and in
the many other tyre tests in which it's appeared, such
as the recent Auto Express, Autocar and Which? reports
In addition to these UK titles there is a large
collection of wins for the F1 across other European
titles. A recent tyre test, Eurotuner Magazine’s “tyre
Test 2005,” named the Eagle F1 as “best of the bunch” in
the magazine”s November issue. German magazines Auto
Zeitung; Sport Auto Magazine and Auto Bild have also
rated the F1 number one. No other tyre has won as many
accolades in this sector.” |
