Bridgestone Summer Tyres Top German Tyre Tests
Bridgestone Summer Tyres Top German Tyre Tests
Bridgestone tyres have topped a number of comparative
tests in some of Germany’s leading automotive
publications. The Bridgestone Potenza RE050A was one of
just two models to receive the top ‘highly
recommendable’ rating in its category from ‘ADAC
Motorwelt’. The respected journal of Germany’s
automobile association compared a line-up of 17 225/45
R17 Y/W tyres running on a Mercedes C-Class 230 – with
dry handling evaluated at the Nürburgring; and wet
performance, comfort, noise and rolling resistance
measured at the Contidrom complex near Hamburg.
In its editorial assessment, the March 2006 edition of
the magazine (which has a massive circulation of over 13
million, plus an electronic counterpart) described the
Potenza as a very well balanced summer tyre, with best
results in the wet and good dry performance. These
results are also reproduced in a number of other
German-language media.
A separate test report in the same issue of the ADAC
publication awarded class-leading grades in both wet and
dry handling, as well as in noise, to the Turanza ER300
185/60 R14 T – a premium touring tyre designed for
luxury and mid-range touring vehicles, Trials were
conducted on 18 competitive brands, using VW Polo 1.6
FSI and 1.9 DTI test-cars. The ER300 was deemed ‘highly
recommendable’, and described as a ‘very well balanced
summer tyre’.
‘Sport Auto’, a specialised enthusiast-oriented monthly
quoting a circulation approaching 62,000, reviewed the
main contenders in the ultra-high performance sector.
The Bridgestone Potenza RE050A emerged in joint first
place from a comparison of 11 225/40 R18 Y tyres
featured in the magazine’s March 2006 issue.
Tested on a 240 hp Opel Astra OPC, the Potenza won a
‘highly recommendable’ rating. It gathered the highest
number of points for dry handling, and shared the best
total score with just one other rival. The particular
strengths of the RE050A were stated to include a high
level of grip on both wet and dry surfaces, with good
braking and resistance to hydroplaning.
‘Powercar’, a 60,000-circulation bi-monthly, also placed
the RE050A in joint first place in a 235/35 ZR19
comparison. The tyres were tested on a BMW 330i at the
Pirelli proving ground in Brazil. Here, the Bridgestone
was found to be ‘ best on dry, fastest in slalom and
easy to drive – with perfect balance in all situations’.
‘Autozeitung’, a publication with a readership of over
200,000, was another to test the Turanza ER300. It
placed the Bridgestone touring tyre at the head of its
rankings – declaring the ER300 as overall test winner.
In this case, 14 tyres in the 185/60 R14 H class were
put through their paces on a VW Polo 1.4FSI, again at
Pirelli’s Brazilian facility.
In the wet, the Turanza was said to offer excellent
braking and easy, accurate handling. It was also found
to outperform all competitors in the dry, with best
braking, high grip and comfortable driving
characteristics. |
