There are a lot of misconceptions about winter tyres, the main one being that they are only worth having when the roads are covered with snow or ice, but this is not the case.

Winter tyres really come into their own when the temperature drops below 7C, which even on milder days often happens in the early mornings and late nights, during the colder months of the year between October and March.

Regular ‘all season’ tyres quickly become less flexible which makes them lose their ability to grip the road and dramatically increases your stopping distance, while winter tyres

Winter tyres remain flexible and grip better when temperatures drop below 7C because they contain a greater amount of natural rubber and silicone.
