The most recent research conducted by analysts at GfK, shows that  4×4 tyres account for 5.8 per cent of total passenger car sales annually. The total market size is around 33 million tyres, which means approximately 1.914 million 4×4 tyres were sold last year.  The most popular rim diameter is still the 16-inch 4×4 tyres, but both 15 and 16-inch sizes are continuing to lose their hold on the market.  The UHP sizes (17-inch rim sizes and above) are gaining share – mainly due to the prominence of vehicles produced by Range Rover, BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Porsche.  Continental representatives commented that they expect the 4×4 tyre market growth to continue thanks mainly to the increase of model types and new crossover vehicles, which are appealing to new consumer sectors.  The 235/60 R18 V as fitted on the Volvo XC90 and the Land Rover Freelander 2 is now the second most popular size in the UK 4×4 tyre market.
