Yes it’s just around the corner…………..time to have a look at the tyres. How much tread do you have? The legal limit is 1.6mm, however your stopping distance is much reduced if you have 3.0mm or more. What about the general condition of them? Any lumps. bumps or tears in them? If you are unsure give us a call.

Caravan Tyres

Do you know that all tyres will deteriorate with age, but car tyres tend to use up most of the tread before the rubber starts to age, unlike a caravan tyre. The caravan association advise replacing them every 5 to 7 years or when you can see dry cracks forming around the tyre. if your not sure call us for a free advice.

Each time we fit a tyre, we treat the steel hub with anti seize grease, this stops the alloy wheel corroding onto the hub assembly, we also torque each wheel nut to it’s correct tension, so you know it has not been over tightened and can be removed at it’s next service requirement with ease.

Importance of correct torque settings for wheels

Every vehicle has factory recommended torque settings, these vary from around 85nm upto 140nm for the larger vehicles. If the nuts are over tightened (and many are) this will stretch and weaken the thread and bolt shaft, causing a weak point within the metal, eventually causing it to shear.

That’s why here at e tyres, we show you the torque setting for your vehicle and you watch us set them correctly.

Tyre noise, wet stopping and fuel economy grades

Mike – etyres writes: You might not think tyres and fridges have much in common, but that is about to change.

From the 1st November, all new tyres will be labelled with a colour-coded sticker so that motorists can make a more informed choice about how safe and efficient they are – just like we do already with fridges.
Manufacturers are already providing labels for all tyres produced after 1st July.
The reason it will benefit motorists is that it offers more information about the hundreds of tyres that are on sale.

The new sticker is designed to show three things:

How good the tyre is at stopping in the wet
How fuel efficient they are
How much noise the tyres make

Tyres graded ‘A’ in each criteria could greatly improve road safety and efficiency, out competing the lowest ranked grade ‘G’ tyre by 30 percent for road safety and potentially saving nearly £1000 on yearly fuel bills.

We will keep you updated with more information on this as the months go by.
