Dangers of Potholes and Your Tyres

We have all experienced the recent bad weather and the toll it has taken on the roads, namely potholes. Many roads have fallen in to a state of disrepair following the ‘big freeze’.

If you have the unfortunate experience of hitting a pothole, take the time to check your tyres once you have stopped. Check the inner as well the outer tyre wall, which may have been damaged. Often the internal damage to a tyre is not visible straight away and may only be seen weeks later.

In order to reduce the damage of potholes ensure that your tyres are at the correct tyre pressure. This is determined by your vehicle manufacturer. There are a few other pointers to remember – potholes often reappear in the same place due to previous repairs failing; remember where you have seen one and no doubt it will be there again! Expect potholes on roads that are used by lots of Lorries and also around bus stops, as extra pressure is put on the road when heavy vehicles are manoeuvring. Help yourself and fellow road users by reporting a pothole to your local authority, early repair could prevent a future accident.
