etyres Nottingham writes:  Illegal tyres are the fourth most common reason for an MOT failure, according to a motoring survey, yet this is so easily avoided.

It takes a few minutes to check if your car tyres are safe and legal.  All you have to do is insert a 20p coin  into the main grooves of the tyre.  If the outer band of the coin is visible when inserted, then the tyre may not have sufficient depth and will almost certainly need replacing.

It is also worth sparing a few minutes to check that there are no signs of damage – lumps, bumps or cracks – in the rubber.  Nails or stones embedded in the tyre could also lead to a possible MOT failure.

If you are putting off replacing your tyres, even though you know they are bald or bordering on being illegal, to save money, it is important to recognise this can be a false economy.

First there could be a fee for an MOT re-test or if you need to have your car back in a hurry, you could be forced to pay over-the-odds for replacements instead of having the time to shop around for the best deals – which etyres Melton Mowbray offer.

But this is just the start, the penalty for breaking this law is a fine of up to £2,500 and three penalty points per illegal tyre – so you could face a £10,000 bill and 12 points if all four tyres are illegal.

You also risk invalidating your car insurance or pushing your premium up.

Plus there is also the serious likelihood of being involved in an accident because your tyres are not safe to handle even ordinary road conditions.

New car tyres do not have to cost a small fortune though.  etyres supply and fit a wide range of tyres to suit all budgets, including economy, mid-range and all the premium brands.

As well as highly competitive prices, we also operate a convenient mobile service which means you can have your new car tyres fitted at your home or work at a time that suits you.
