TYRES NORTHAMPTON BLOGS
February 18, 2014
Hopefully we have seen the last of the severe storms that have been battering us for weeks, but there is still plenty of rain and unpredictable winter weather to contend with.
So how did your car tyres perform driving through excessive amounts of surface water? With the new EU tyre labelling regulations in place, everyone can now see which car tyres are better suited to wet conditions and make a better choice when comparing different brands when they have to buy new tyres.
When you browse the wide range of tyres etyres Northampton supply and fit you will see each tyre is rated for three key factors, wet grip, fuel efficiency and noise emissions. Obviously, the wet grip issue has been very important during the last few weeks and having this information at their fingertips has helped our customers make better, more informed choices when ordering their new tyres.
If you need new tyres, etyres Daventry offer a service which is hard to beat. To begin with we operate a mobile tyre fitting service, which means you can have your new tyres fitted at a location of your choice, whether you are at home or work, and at a time that suits you.
And our highly competitive prices are currently lower due to our Big Tyre Sale, which means you get £25 off if you buy four or more new tyres or £10 if you order two or three new tyres. These offers are available on all the tyres we supply and fit, including economy, mid-range and premium brands. And our prices include fitting, a new valve, balancing, disposal of the old tyre and VAT – there are no hidden extras with etyres Northampton.
So if want to buy new tyres that offer the best performance on wet roads, etyres Northampton will help you get to grips with the best choices at the lowest prices.

Steve – etyres Northampton writes: etyres Northampton is urging all of its customers to check their car tyres to ensure they are safe ahead of what weather forecasters are predicting to be one of the worst winters in recent years.
With snow predicted from November and expected to last until February, etyres Northampton explains how to check your car tyres and when to replace them in order to get through the winter season.
Firstly, when checking your car tyres for wear, it is important to look at the inside wall of the tyre, as often, it is difficult to see and can be overlooked. A vehicle that may be slightly out of alignment, can often show much h, often caused by potholes in the road, are also often not detected due to the difficulty in accessing this section of the tyre.
When visiting customers across Northamptonshire, etyres Northampton also regularly find car tyres inflated to the incorrect pressures which will cause increased tyre wear and increased fuel consumption. Correct tyre pressures can be found in the vehicles handbook and normally on the ‘b post’ when opening the driver’s door or inside the fuel filler cap.
Finally, etyres Northampton recommend you examine the tread depth of all of your car tyres, including the spare, to make sure your car tyres are safe and legal. A simple tread depth gauge can be bought from any motorists centre and is very inexpensive, yet valuable.
The legal limit for car tyres in the UK is 1.6mm across 75% of the tyre; normally this is measured in three places across the face of the tyre, giving an inner, middle and outer measurement.
However, etyres Northampton and many other safety groups recommend changing tyres, especially during wet conditions, when they reach 3mm for added safety. Recent research has shown as car tyres wear, braking distances slowly increase; but when tyres reach 3mm, the braking distance then starts to increase dramatically.
In tests, etyres Northampton has discovered that car tyres with 3mm tread offer 25% better performance than those at 1.6mm in wet conditions, which equates to 8 metres of extra stopping distance.
If you compare a tyre with 8mm of tread to a tyre with 1.6mm of tread, braking distances increase dramatically to 13 metres, showing clearly that as a tyre wears, the performance deteriorates dramatically when the tread falls below 3mm.
etyres Northampton supply and fit a wide range of car tyres, as well as van, caravan, motorhome and trailer tyres, to suit all budgets, including economy, mid-range and all the premium brands.
Plus, our free mobile service means etyres Northampton customers benefit from having their new car tyres fitted at a time and location of their choice, whether that is at their home or work.
