We recently visited a customer who had a suspected puncture. Upon closer inspection no nails, screws or general tyre damage could be found. The fitter then sprayed the rim looking for other possibilities of escaping air. After about 10 minutes and 5 gallons of soapy water, Dave found a hairline fracture on the alloy wheel. The lady was due to go on the school run, and was starting to panic about collecting the kids. We explained that she did not need a new tyre, and then we put the spare tyre on to ensure she was driving safely. The result, a lost sale BUT very happy customer and 4 happy kids, all collected safely. Two days later, her husband called to thank us for our honesty and also ordered a tyre for his van.

Here’s one of those, ‘a funny thing happened to me the other day’, stories that actually DID happen: We walked into a cab office and asked if they would they be interested in a mobile tyre fitting service, nah mate came the reply, we are a taxi firm, not chauffer service, what’s that got to do with it I asked? Our drivers don’t wear ties!!! Muppet I said, TYRES not TIES!!! Then he said, ah, OK, I wondered why you had etyres on your uniform!!!
