Since the introduction of the new EU tyre labels last November, it has become easier to compare the characteristics of each tyre. The tyre labels show the ranking of each tyre in three categories; Wet Grip, Fuel Efficiency and Road Noise. Interestingly, we have been surprised that some premium tyres score less well in the 3 targetted catagories than the cheaper tyres available.
This highlights that there can be huge savings to be made on tyre purchases without necessarily compromising on quality, as the most expensive tyres in each size are often more than double the price of the cheapest and may not score any better. While the EU tyre labels may not tell the whole story – one important factor they don’t take account of is tyre mileage – they do make direct comparisons easier.
All the tyres we stock have the new tyre labelling information along side them on our website (where it is available).
